Live maps: Congressional Outreach for Baha’is in Iran

Track the visits to U.S. Congress members

These interactive maps tell you:

  • Which senators and representatives, or their staff, have met with delegations formed by Local Spiritual Assemblies at the request of the National Assembly
  • Whether your senators or representative have already co-sponsored S.Res.80 or H.Res.134 (look for “Co-sponsor” next to their names)

Place your cursor over your state or district!

  • The maps above reflect the ongoing results of efforts by individuals and institutions to urge members of Congress to support the Baha’is in Iran.

What can you do? Call Congress Campaign
on behalf of Baha’is in Iran

Take action this summer to make sure the bill in the House of Representatives is brought to a vote!

The Iranian regime’s campaign of intimidation and rights abuses against the Baha’is – Iran’s largest non-Mulsim religious minority – is a wholesale violation of the International Convenants on Human Rights, to which Iran is a signatory.

In the United States Congress, two resolutions have been introduced (Resolution 80 in the Senate has passed, and Resolution 134 in the House is pending) that propose measures to stop the repression. The language of the resolutions demands the immediate release of all Baha’i prisoners of conscience and calls for sanctions for “individuals directly responsible for egregious human rights violations in Iran, including against the Baha’i community.”

Without your help, the resolution may never make it to the floor for a vote. Let your representative know that you want his or her co-sponsorship of the bill.

  • Call your U.S. representative. Ask him or her to demonstrate support for the Baha’is in Iran by co-sponsoring H.Res.134, condemning the continued persecution by the Iranian government. Find out  who is a co-sponsor, then call your representative’s Washington office (find contact info here) asking her or him to co-sponsor or thanking them if they already did.

As seen in The American Baha’i magazine: maps are continually updated! Check S.Res.80 and H.Res.134 for the latest on resolution co-sponsors.

  • About the Persecution

Some 300,000 Baha’is live throughout Iran, making the Baha’i Faith the country’s largest minority religion. The persecution of Baha'is in Iran has been taking place since the religion began there in the mid-nineteenth century. More than 200 Baha’is were killed in Iran between 1978 and 1998, the majority by execution, and thousands more were imprisoned.More
