Baha’is mentioned in European Parliament resolution on human rights in Iran

The European Parliament adopted a resolution yesterday on the situation of human rights in Iran.  The resolution makes references to the persecution of Baha’is in Iran and appeals to the Iranian authorities to live up to the government’s obligation to respect religious minorities and promptly release the seven Baha’i leaders arrested on May 14, 2008.

The persecution of Baha'is in Iran has been taking place since the religion began there in the mid-nineteenth century. More than 200 Baha’is were killed in Iran between 1978 and 1998, the majority by execution, and thousands more were imprisoned.More
